    The worst take ever "Negotiation" is not a yes or no dilemma Let's say I came in for an interview And I said that I'm expecting to get 10,000 a monthly but you said no then we started looking for the middle ground if we can't find it then you should go

    That was no accident in 07, the people answered and said no but the government bailed them out anyway. The lesson learned was the government doesn't listen to the people

    Doug, If a customer is non-responsive it is because they never intended to respond. Your job is to engage the prospect in the Positioning phase to agree upon a scope of work. Someone who doesn't intend to respond probably won't take that step with you - therefore you never need to write a proposal in the first place.

    Extremely insightful and valuable. We have been asked many times to show more or less detail in a proposal. This helps explain why. Tom's information is relevant to all industries, not just A/V.

    Salespersons are valued for returning revenue or gross profit; Biz Dev is tasked with delivering opportunities. Hire Biz Dev for his or her networking ability, understanding of the vertical, and potential to penetrate the channels. This is marketing not sales. Biz Dev reports to C-level not Sales Management. Pay a high salary (compared to sales) and bonus (80% / 20%) measured on increase in opportunities delivered and channel growth realized (regardless of whether you track back to Biz Dev).
